Help Street Kids in Sudan

Meet Jack*, a boy rescued from the streets in Sudan and now living in one of OM’s Street Boys centers. For more than 11 years, Operation Mobilization has been rescuing boys off the streets of Sudan by operating three residential centers and a day center. For many years, Sudan has been torn by civil war and unrest, and there are many displaced people within the country.

“My name is Jack*. I am 13 years old. I used to play with my brothers, cousins and friends. I lived in the South of Sudan. My mother and father used to fight a lot. I went to live with my uncle. I was beaten because I refused to go to school. I ran away, and I went on top of a train to go to Khartoum. When I arrived in Khartoum, I used to get drunk everyday. I used to smoke cigarettes. I stole some clothes and wore them. I stole a camel. Sometimes I used to wash cars to get money to eat. Mostly I ate scraps from the rubbish. I wandered alone with no friends.

“I used to dream to be boss of the street boys. One day a problem happened. I was arrested and sent to prison. I escaped and was caught and sent back again. When I got out, some boys took me to the [OM Street Boys] center. In the center we had lots of fun and games. I started to go to school. In the center I found that God is love. We all love one another. I have many friends at the center.”

For more than 11 years, Operation Mobilization has been rescuing boys off the streets of Sudan by operating three residential centers and a day center. For many years, Sudan has been torn by civil war and unrest, and there are many displaced people within the country.

At the live-in centers, boys are provided with three meals a day, an educational program, medical care, and a safe place to sleep and store what possessions they have. The changes in these boys’ lives have been incredible. Almost all of the boys have come to know Christ as their personal Savior, and some have even gone on to study at a local university after “graduating” from the center school.
