Praying for their nation

At the end of January, the first national prayer conference for the Year of Prayer in Bosnia Hercegovina was held in the city of Mostar in the south of the country. It is estimated that there are, at most, 1,000 believers in Bosnia Hercegovina so the 130 people who attended the prayer conference represented an incredible 13 % of the believers (imagine 13% of all believers in your country gathering to pray!).Some of those who attended the conference had never met or been around believers outside of their own town. For them, it was a chance to connect with others who share their faith and be encouraged that they are not alone. At different points throughout the weekend, participants took time to pray for various churches and ministries both within Mostar and in the rest of the country. On Saturday afternoon, they took the opportunity to go on prayer walks through Mostar. The cityis divided into the West and East sides (Croatian and Muslim, respectively), separated by the Neretva river. The ethnic divide of the city is evidence of the war that divided the residents against each other in the 1990s. Throughout all the meetings and the prayer walks, God’s presence was very strong among us.
